Janice
Ohta
Janice
is a seasoned executive with over 17 years experience in the biotechnology
industry. Most recently, Janice has focused on her involvement or board
positions with a few non-profit organizations including the Pasadena
Bioscience Center and the Harbor/UCLA Research & Education Institute.
In addition, she accepts various consulting assignments ranging from
strategic planning to financial management to early stage venture capital.
Janice retired from ten years at Amgen, Inc. where she was Director,
Business Planning and Analysis. In this position she was responsible
for Finance in Product Development (with over $300 million in expense
worldwide), International Project Management, Strategic Planning and
Portfolio Management, as well as involvement in acquisitions and licensing
activities. Janice's Project Management group was responsible for managing
over 23 INDs and NDAs in more than 6 different therapeutic areas.
Janice
began her career conducting research projects for academic institutions
including the Salk Institute and the UCSD Medical Center. She then went
to work for Hybritech, Inc. developing antibody-based diagnostics. She
later joined Chimertech, Inc. as Project Manager. For this start-up
company focused on developing genetically engineered antibodies as therapeutics
for cancer and AIDS targets, she oversaw the all business development
aspects of the firm including strategic and financial planning, market
analysis, development of collaborations and acquisition of funding.
Janice
holds a B.A. in psychology, biology and organic chemistry from University
of California, San Diego and an M.B.A. from the Anderson School at the
University of California, Los Angeles.
